Michel Birot
France
Bio
Michel Birot came from fashion and documentary photography (Réalités, Dépêche Mode, Biba, 20 ans and Figaro Magazine). But as early as the 1990s he started a personal project following a rugby school. It was to be his first exhibition on the subject. From 1995 on, he covered the World Rugby Cup in South Africa for the French newspaper, Libération, as well as several Five Nations Championships. The shift was made and his new career began. It reached its peak with the creation of Attitude Rugby in 1998, a glossy, large format, quarterly magazine in black and white which became the setting to showcase his own work as well as that of the photography greats he invited along. He has left behind a grandiose body of work, an eternal homage to this sport and the men that play it.
