Ken GrantUn mot sur l'oeuvre
(KGRA009)
Since the 1980’s Ken Grant has photographed football culture in Liverpool, his home city. From youth games and local bar teams playing in district park leagues, to the weekly rituals of match days at Liverpool and Everton, he has photographed the sport - and the city’s relationship with it - in all its forms. With football serving as a central thread in the working and social lives of his contemporaries, it has always been an element of Grant’s wider work about the city.
The photographs were made between 1986 and 2004 in Liverpool and Birkenhead, in the Northwest of England and are illustrated in the book The Topical Times for these Times. The work is made on a personal basis (none was commissioned).
Le témoignage de Ken Grant
" Rarely going inside the stadia, i have instead photographed in the streets and bars outside, at the pitch sides and on buses across the city over decades. "
Le choix de Jean-Denis
" Ken Grant is for me the "Ken Loach" of the still picture. Same universe, same sympathy for the people. Football was born in England and Liverpool especially. Ken Grant tells us the passion of this sport and hardness of life. Incontournable. "
